In the deepest shadows of a bunker, an artist’s dream took root. That artist, Novem Htoo, an exile, forged his pain, his defiance, and the weight of oppression into a brand: Rebel Dog. A dog lover at heart, he named it for the loyalty dogs have to their masters—the same fierce loyalty he saw in those who stood true to the cause of democracy.
To bring this vision to life, he joined forces with two others: Kyee Kan (aka Kaung Kaung), who was already running a sock business, and David Zion of Defy, a t-shirt printing company. Together, they unleashed Rebel Dog.
This brand is the voice of the youth on the ground. It’s a tribute to their unyielding spirit, a monument to those who refuse to kneel before the jackboot. From those fighting back with whatever they have to those enduring the hardships of the jungle, their resilience is captured in the brand’s motto: Bite back. It’s a promise to sink their teeth into the enemy.
As an exile artist, Novem Htoo wanted to use fashion to tell the world the story of the military’s oppression. And so, instead of the traditional raised fist, he created a paw fist, a symbol of unity and solidarity.
Rebel Dog is more than just clothes and accessories. It’s a movement. It’s the pain, the resilience, the hope, and the unwavering stance of the Myanmar people. To wear Rebel Dog is to breathe new life into that spirit—to feel the strength to resist and to bite back against any and all oppression.
